AI without the mystery

Brains, models, tools, and why AI can guess wrong.

Is AI magic or a word game?
BIT predicts the next word and jumps from watermelon to the moon.
What you will learn: Learn that generative AI makes patterns-based outputs; it cannot read minds.
Who does what: model, app, or tool?
Gulu puts a brain on a drill but forgets to plug it in.
What you will learn: Tell apart the AI model, the app interface, and connected tools.
Why can AI sound sure and still be wrong?
Goose mistakes “sounds true” for “has evidence.” The meeting vanishes into fog.
What you will learn: Spot invented claims and practice checking sources and cross-checking facts.
How are AI, machine learning, and generative AI related?
BIT packs a picture-making task into one tiny box. Director Goose draws an umbrella and overlapping circles, then BIT gets flattened under four hats.
What you will learn: AI is the broad field; machine learning and deep learning describe methods; generative AI describes creating new content. These categories can overlap.
Training vs. answering: what is the difference?
BIT drops Gulu’s “no peanuts” breakfast order into a brain blender, and Director Goose rushes over to hit pause.
What you will learn: Training uses many examples to adjust a model; inference uses a trained model to answer. Check a service’s settings and policy to learn how it uses chats.
What are tokens and a context window?
BIT tries to stuff an entire encyclopedia into a tiny suitcase. The zipper pops, and books fly everywhere.
What you will learn: A model can use only a limited amount of context at once; that is not permanent memory. Share relevant sections and check what the AI actually read.
Training data: How does AI learn patterns?
After ten photos, BIT mistakes yellow sticky notes for signs of a ripe watermelon.
What you will learn: Incomplete, biased, or mislabeled examples can teach the wrong clues; test with varied examples.
How does a neural network spot clues?
BIT stacks cat-clue cards into layers, then gives every card a graduation cap.
What you will learn: A neural network is connected, layered calculation inspired by brains—not a tiny human brain.
Does AI ace practice but fail a new test?
BIT has only seen cats in red hats, so it says a cat without one is not a cat.
What you will learn: Hold out new examples to check whether a model learned a pattern that generalizes.
Three common ways for a model to learn
BIT spins between labeled fruit, mystery-sock groups, and a maze that awards stars.
What you will learn: Supervised learning uses labeled examples; unsupervised learning finds structure; reinforcement learning improves through action feedback.

Give AI clear directions

Use goals, context, limits, and checks to keep work on track.

Write a five-line task card
Goose hands BIT a note. At last, the kitchen isn't a rocket factory.
What you will learn: State the goal, materials, constraints, format, and acceptance check.
Break a big job into little steps
BIT swallows a whole manual and gets stuck on page one.
What you will learn: Read and plan first, then work in small steps you can review.
How do you know it got the job right?
Gulu and Goose make a checklist BIT can actually tick off.
What you will learn: Turn “looks good” into a clear, observable definition of done.

Images, sound & animation

Describe the idea, then turn it into shots you can stage.

Put the picture in your head into words
Gulu asks for a cat. BIT delivers an octopus-cat in a space helmet.
What you will learn: Describe the subject, action, setting, and visual style.
Turn a paragraph into storyboards
Goose breaks a bus chase into three shots; BIT chases it into the kitchen.
What you will learn: Arrange a story with shot order, action, and a clear visual focus.
Keep the cast recognizable episode to episode
BIT changes hats ten times. Goose pulls out a character sheet.
What you will learn: Set consistent character looks, voices, and signature gestures.
AI voices and music: ask who said yes
BIT wants to voice Director Goose’s cartoon, so Goose hands over a permission form first.
What you will learn: Use your own or clearly licensed audio; check tool terms, disclose synthetic audio when needed, and never impersonate someone to mislead.

Everyday learning & work

Read, summarize, and research with AI while keeping your judgment.

Open the course series page →

Explain a long article in tea-break time
Gulu asks for a manual summary and gets a history of milk tea first.
What you will learn: Specify the reader, length, and key points; then check for omissions.
Research means more than the first search result
BIT finds three “expert ducks.” Goose asks for a source for each one.
What you will learn: Separate fact, guess, and opinion; keep traceable sources.
Translate the meaning, not just the words
Gulu taps translate. BIT turns a birthday wish into a legal notice.
What you will learn: Name the audience and tone, keep key terms, and review the meaning.

AI helpers & connected tools

Meet agents, MCP, and skills—and learn to check access first.

Open the course series page →

How does a chatbot become a helper?
BIT wants to open a door, then realizes it has no key or handle.
What you will learn: Separate model reasoning, app capabilities, and tool calls.
Check permissions before plugging in MCP
Gulu gives BIT a key ring. Goose asks which key opens the safe.
What you will learn: Understand tool connections, scope of access, and confirmation.
Turn repeatable steps into a reusable Skill
Goose turns a memo into a process card; BIT stops relearning shoelaces.
What you will learn: Learn what Skills, project rules, and external tools each do.
RAG: How can AI look up files before answering?
BIT tries to eat a 200-page cookbook; Goose pulls out three relevant pages first.
What you will learn: RAG retrieves relevant passages, then asks a model to draft an answer; check the cited source.
Semantic search: How can AI find similar meaning?
Gulu asks BIT for warm food; BIT finds tomato soup and a hot-water-bottle ad.
What you will learn: Embeddings encode text as numbers to find related items; similarity is a clue, so check the source.
Document chunks: Why not search a whole book at once?
BIT drops a cookbook into search and pancakes the computer; splitting it into single words leaves a bag of clues.
What you will learn: RAG searches smaller pieces; chunks that are too big add noise, and tiny ones lose context.
Should AI decide on its own? Match access to risk
BIT drafts a menu and invitation, then pauses for Gulu before sending or paying.
What you will learn: Start read-only, then allow reversible edits; external and high-impact actions need stronger checks.

Build, code & launch

Make an idea into a site with small changes and safer habits.

Open the course series page →

Use AI for code—and review what changed
BIT remodels the whole kitchen when Gulu only asked for a new lamp.
What you will learn: Limit scope, make small changes, and inspect the diff and preview.
GitHub is a project album you can rewind
Gulu deletes a button. Goose finds yesterday's version.
What you will learn: Learn repositories, commits, branches, pushes, and rollbacks.
Going live isn't taping your keys to the door
BIT posts an API key at the entrance. Goose hits the alarm.
What you will learn: Meet domains, hosting, APIs, and the basics of server safety.

AI, work & responsibility

Start with a real need, test small, and take care with data and facts.

Find a problem before asking if AI can make money
Gulu invents a poetry vacuum. Goose asks who actually needs one.
What you will learn: Start with a real user problem; don't mistake tool ability for demand.
Run a small experiment before scaling up
BIT orders ten machines. Goose says: first make one testable sample.
What you will learn: Track time, cost, and feedback; use evidence to choose the next step.
Privacy, rights, and human review
BIT pastes a contact list into a prompt. Goose slams the pause button.
What you will learn: Check permission, sensitive data, sources, and human review before sharing.
Can AI voices and videos fool us? Verify before sharing
BIT hears a voice like Goose's and stacks two hundred cakes; Gulu checks a saved contact and learns Goose asked for two.
What you will learn: A clip or detector score cannot prove its source. Verify through a trusted independent channel and respect consent.

Your AI workbench and task partners

Projects, model choice, and clear handoffs.

Open the course series page →

Chats, projects, folders: what lives where?
BIT claims to have searched the whole house, but its folder holds one grocery list.
What you will learn: Check what the current workspace and chat can actually see before asking AI to work on files.
Choose a model for the job, not the hype
BIT calls eight super experts to rewrite one polite sentence. The meeting lasts three hours.
What you will learn: Match the task, tools, quality, time, and cost; try a small sample and review it.
Correct this task or queue another?
Gulu asks BIT to fix today's cake date. BIT adds the change to the next order.
What you will learn: When work drifts, say what to change, keep, and pause. Check what each app control will do.
Plan complex work, then check each step
BIT grabs a drill to nail a bookshelf to the curtains. Goose asks for a plan first.
What you will learn: Set scope and success checks, then work in steps and review each one. Confirm before deleting, sending, paying, or publishing.
